A Useful Guide to rotary box Schemes and Filterstraws

A summary of costs and contacts of Rotary led initiatives to help bring hope and relief to all people around the world.

AQUABOXES 1
Blue plastic box
Contents
- A single filter and enough purification tablets to provide 1100 litres of clean drinking water - that is enough for a family of four people, drinking 10 cups per day, for about four months. It is designed for Rotary Clubs and others such as individuals, schools, churches, scouts, guides and other community groups to fill with added welfare aid items selected from a published list. Survival bags are added before it is dispatched to an aid agency for use in a disaster area.

- £50 includes cost of delivery to you and its return when filled, via the Post Office. £32 for filling by another organization (The filling organization will be asked to pay
£18 for transport)


2.Aquabox Gold
Contents
- A special version of the standard Aquabox. It is packed by the Aquabox Team and filled with new specially purchased, humanitarian goods to meet the basic needs of the recipients, including a second filter pack to extend its water purification life for one family to over six months. It does not include clothing.

Aqua3O
Contents - 30 filters, 30 packs of chlorine, giving 33,000 litres of drinkable water.
This version does not contain additional welfare items. It is used in areas where there is a large group of people, such as villages, schools, hospitals etc.

Water Survival Box - Red plastic box with Blue lid
Contents - It is a rigid reinforced 54 litre plastic container slightly smaller than the Aquabox. It includes a filtration pack including chlorine tablets. enough to clean water for a family of 4 for some 4 months - a basic shelter via a tarpaulin sheet, and essential survival items for feeding and drinking, health and hygiene, survival tools, and general household, items for baby and pens and papers for children. All items are purchased new.

LifeStraws
This remarkable device is a portable water purification tool that cleans surface water and makes it safe for human consumption. It is just 25cm long and 29 cm in diameter and can be hung around the head. LifeStraws require no electrical power or spare parts. Life expectancy of a single straw can be up to one year from the start of usage.
The Rotary Club of Brynmawrs FiltaStraws Project organises the acquisition of the straws and distributes them to Disaster hit areas.

Life Box Yellow plastic box
Contents To ensure the consistency and quality of the box contents, it is filled with 72 new items, of tools,
clothes, blankets, baby care and hygiene items. Together with toys and classroom materials, and is available for both hot and cold climates. The Red Cross specifically tailored the contents list, with each box providing vital aid for adults and children. Most importantly each box contains 6 LifeStraws donated by FiltaStraw

Trade Aid Box - Grey plastic box
Humanitarian Box for:

Each box contains a carefully selected and comprehensive range of new tools and equipment suitable for a business to re-start after a disaster or for a person or community to start work for the first time.

Rotary Shoebox Scheme
How it Works. You obtain your fiat packed boxes from the Trustees and then fill them,
Either by your club, a focal school, or by others.
The box needs to be filled either with items for small kids, teenagers or with household items,
BUT NO FOOD OF ANY KIND DUE TO CUSTOMS REGULATIONS.
The filled boxes are then returned to Shoebox or they can be collected in large numbers.
Cost £50 for 25 boxes the more you purchase the cheaper they become, also please place
a £1 coin on the top of the box with tape to help with onward transport cost.

Sheiterbox - Green plastic box
Contents - A 10 Person tent and all ancillary equipment designed to enable a family of 10 people to survive for a least six months. The exact contents will depend upon the local conditions, and what is most needed at that moment in time.
Other items include insulated ground sheets, sleeping bags, thermal blankets, a multi fuel stove, cooking equipment, tools, mosquito nets and water containers, etc.
