The Rotary Club of Wellington has a new President. John Wardle was installed as President 2016-17 on Friday 1st July at the Buckatree Hall Hotel by Immediate Past President Peter Seaward. President John was supported by the newly installed Presidents of the Rotary Club of Telford Centre, Chris Mackrell, and the Rotary Club of Brewood, Malcolm Lockey, and by colleagues from Single Source.
John is a Yorkshireman by birth, living close to the North Yorkshire Moors, but his career in the sugar industry took him from his native county first to Peterborough before bringing him to Shropshire in 1989. John lived in Newport before moving to his present home in Admaston in 1999.
He was Senior Financial Accountant with the sugar beet refiner British Sugar before moving to Shropshire to become Finance Director of portion packing business Heinz Single Service and, more recently, Single Source which is based at Stafford Park. John’s first qualification was in Accountancy but he subsequently attained qualifications in Computing and Law.
John was invited to join the Rotary Club of Wellington in 2005 and quickly accepted. He welcomed the opportunity to join an organisation that supports communities locally, nationally and around the world, including supporting the global program to eliminate Polio. John adds “Rotary filled a gap in my life and presented an opportunity to give something back. Having fun with others whilst we plan and undertake our work adds to the enjoyment. My regret is Rotary found me rather than me finding them much earlier in my life. I hope others don’t wait for Rotary to find them”.
“I am very pleased the Club has given me this opportunity and look forward to representing the Club as its President during the next year”
