Heath Awareness Success

Health Awareness Day, The Square, Wellington, Saturday 3rd June 2017

Fortunately it was dry, if a bit cool, and the large advertising trailer which had been in the Square on Friday afternoon, had been removed. The Transit vans from Furrows arrived, with lots of tables and chairs from High Ercall, and Norman brought his gazebo, which strenuously resisted being put up.

The vans made good consulting rooms for taking Blood Pressures, the First Responders measured heights and weights, and Lloyds Pharmacy loaned the front of their shop for doing Blood Sugars.  A team from Telford and Wrekin ‘Healthy Lifestyles’ did lung function tests, as well as giving advice.

We were visited by the new Mayor of Wellington, Denis Allen.

We saw over 150 people, making it a very worthwhile exercise.  I don’t think this year we picked up any major issues, but a number of people needed follow –up.  Some blood pressures may have been raised by watching a group of scantily clad young women doing a ‘Hoola-Hoop’ event next to us.

A very big ‘Thank you’ to all who helped in one way or other, making it possible.
