Sports Review January 2017

Wellington have had a pretty good year.

In the spring 2016 we reached the final of table tennis, but were defeated by a very talented Leek team. We missed our best player in the table tennis in the current competition – we don’t have a strong enough squad, yet, to get back to winning ways.

We won the darts in 2015/16 after playing six times and practicing lots of times at the Park. Our dominos and drinking also improved! In the autumn 2016 competition we had bad luck in the darts, we scored well, but the doubles were difficult to hit. If only!

We won the 2015/16 Croquet competition, which was a tremendous achievement against some strong opponents. This summer’s croquet only saw us reach the semi final where we lost to a good Cannock team.

After going out of the tenpin bowling early last year, we had a practice and discovered a couple of hidden gems to really strengthen the team this year. We have reached the semi- final in the 2016/17 competition and still have more talent to burst out!!

All I can say about the lawn bowls is that next time we will do better.

The snooker team is improving and we are having a few practice sessions at Jim Udale’s table. We have a good chance against Telford Centre at the Sir John Bayley club on the 16th Jan and if successful we will have reached the semi-final.

With more than fifty teams from Ludlow to Leek including the heavy populations of Stoke and Wolverhampton, I feel we have done fairly well. We have made good contacts with lots of teams, we have had a great team spirit, determination and are always striving to get better. Although I am the one saying it, we don’t like too many silver medal positions!

For the future I would like to see more new members so we can have more fun and work hard with the club going from strength to strength in ALL departments.
