The Rotary Club of Wellington organises a Sportsman’s Night each year as one of its main fundraising activities.
The speaker in 2017 was former England cricketer Graham Thorpe together with comedian Paul Boardman. In recent years the event has taken place at the Telford Whitehouse Hotel.
All proceeds of the event will be going to Charity.
In 2016 Past President Mike Dorricott of the Rotary Club of Wellington, as usual, organised and produced an outstanding Sportsman’s Night at the White House Hotel in Wellington. Over 200 people listened as main speaker Fergus Slattery, former Irish Rugby Union player and British and Irish Lions International, kept the audience spellbound with his mixture of Rugby Union stories and Irish banter.
There followed an intriguing time with Billy Flywheel and his mixture of comedy, magic and hypnotism – laughter rang around the room. President Elect John Wardle who ‘volunteered’ to help suddenly found it impossible to move his hands from his head. He said, ‘What an enjoyable evening – but how did Billy Flywheel do that?”
The evening’s success meant that over £5000 was raised for charities, with the Telford Parkinson’s Support Group being a key recipient.
