Nominated by President Vic Young and supported unanimously by Club Council, Geoff has devoted much of his Club membership promoting the Rotary Foundation, an international fund to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. He has consistently over many years encouraged Club Council & Members to support its aims & donate monies to the fund. As a consequence of his efforts and persuasion, our Club is now one of the few that reaches the Rotary International target for Clubs to donate $100 per member per annum into the fund. This means that our Club donates at least $5000 to Rotary Foundation each year. In addition, he has arranged, for many years, our Club’s supermarket collections to raise money for Rotary’s “Polio Eradication” programme across the world. Our collections usually bring in around $1500 each year so, in the many years he has organised them, our Club has sent thousands of dollars to help eradicate that dreadful disease. To further support Foundation causes, he arranges our Club’s weekly Wine Raffle. But it’s not all fundraising! The Rotary Foundation often makes grants from its funds back into the UK as well as abroad to support Clubs’ work in helping good causes. Geoff has been instrumental in helping our Club secure significant Grants in their £000s. Most recently, we have helped the Wrekin Riders BMX Club install container based Club House and toilets AND we have helped St. Andrews hospital in Malawi install solar panels to help ensure their eye operations could continue through the previously frequent power cuts. Geoff is now a well respected Rotarian at District level because of all his Foundation expertise. In addition, Geoff is a well respected Club member participating in both our social fellowship events and our other Rotary activity in the town. Congratulations Geoff, well deserved!
