Higher Education Awards Made

The Flagship Project of the Youth Services year at the Rotary Club of Wellington is the Higher Education Award.  This award is made annually to young persons from Wellington who will be entering the first year of Higher Education. It is designed to help enhance both their learning experience and their personal development before they enter their chosen career.  The award is not intended to cover the cost of course books, any other routine course material or living expenses.

In 2016 the award of £1200 attracted numerous applications and subsequently eight candidates were interviewed by a panel consisting of the President, President Nominee and Chair of the Youth Services Committee.  The panel unanimously agreed that two candidates stood above the others and so a joint award was made.

This year’s award was made to Catherine Pennington and to Michael Seddon at a meeting of the Rotary Club of Wellington where they thanked members and outlined how their awards would be used.  Catherine is to study Biomedical Science at the University of Sheffield while Michael is to follow a course in Music Production at the University of Brighton.
