Two Popular Charities Supported Again

At the club meeting on Friday 29th July members were delighted to welcome representatives from two of the local charities the club has supported regularly over many years, PODS (Parents Opening Doors) and Homestart Telford & Wrekin.

Joanne Smith, accompanied by her son Rhys gave a presentation on the work of PODS which supports families with a child or young person under the age of 25 with any form of disability.

PODS offer a wide range of support including activity groups, befriending, days out and training. Demand for help has increased to such an extent that they now have over 1,500 registered clients and recently they were awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

President Richard was delighted to present them with a cheque for £1,000 to pay the cost of two coaches for a day out to Rhyl.

Homestart is a charity close to our President’s heart as his wife Janis was a volunteer with the South Shropshire branch for some 20 years.

Sharon Uppal spoke about the work she does having taken on a new role including marketing and media for the Telford & Wrekin branch. She too received a cheque, this time for £575, also to pay for a day out at the beach at Rhyl. All seats were booked within days of being advertised.

Both charities were supported by the club’s Fairbourne Fund and several more donations will be presented in the coming weeks.
