Young Carer and Scouts Fun Day

The Rotary Club of Wellington sponsors a Fun Day at the Wrekin Scout camp, organised fot the for Telford Young Carers by 2nd Wellington Scout Group.

Young Carers with their leaders are entertained by cubs, scouts, scout leaders, parents and Rotarians.  The activities offered includ backwoods cooking, branding, bow & arrow making, walking stick making & decorating, plaiting and leather stamping.

A team of Rotarian and Inner Wheel members cook and serve a BBQ so that the young people are well fed before they enjoy a campfire sing song.

After a recent Fun Day this is what was said:

Caroline Elliot, Activities Co-ordinator of Telford & Wrekin Young Carers Service, said, “All the children were full of beans which is a sure sign they had a great time. Thank you for a fantastic afternoon , so much work had gone into this afternoon and was thoroughly enjoyed by all! Lovely to do a joint venture with the scouts as well.”

Alison Peel Group Scout Leader reported “We all had a fabulous day – really enjoyed it.  The Young Carers were stars. I was really pleased when I went down to the gate with the blanket badges at the end and one young man said to me that he thought he would be bored, but he’d really enjoyed the afternoon, so we must have done something right!  Many thanks to everyone from your side that helped – the campfire skit was brilliant!  Lots of nice comments about the food as well.”

President Peter Seaward of the Rotary Club of Wellington said “I was so grateful to the hard work put in by so many volunteers, the day went well – even the weather was good.”   .
