Visit to Shrewsbury and Newport Canals Trust at Wappenshall

In the days when canals provided the major form of transportation, Wappenshall was an important junction in the network which linked the canals and inclined planes of the coal and other mines in what is now Telford. The Trust has been doing a great deal of work here and is preparing to put some of the canal back into water very soon. Twenty of us negotiated the muddy conditions to see the progress that is being made to add to the understanding of the history of our community .
