Besides providing service to the community which is the main purpose of the Rotary Club of Wellington’s activities, there is always the opportunity to take part in social activities, especially at Christmas time. This year has been no exception. The club’s choir (aided by their ladies) has been in full song. Carols were sung first at at Abbeyfields and then at Farcroft Nursing Home organised by Rod Kirby.
In charge for Christmas luncheon on the 20th was President Peter Martin with 80 members and partners and other guests. It was an enjoyable party with the Revd Edward Ward (of the R C of Newport) giving an amusing and instructive Christmas address. At the lunch no less than three members were presented with 40-year membership certificates – Norman Quin, Rod Kirby and Tom Farmer (see below).
Finally, for every Christmas morning as far as most of can remember Tom Farmer has turned into Santa Claus calling on the residents of Farcroft on Christmas morning. Mrs. Claus (Maureen) and regular elves Jim Tranter, Graham Reedman, David and Margaret Lovatt with Venn Davies also joined in the fun.
