Traditionally the Rotary Club of Wellington’s awards Paul Harris Fellowships to those who give outstanding service to Rotary and to the wider community. When these awards are made the club tries to ensure that they are made individually and separately. This year the unusual occasion arose when Fellowships were presented to a couple. Past president Ken Whitcombe is blind but has always been determined that his disability would never get in the way of what he feels needs to be done both in the club and in the wider community. Ken and his wife Paula, who is a member of Wellington Inner Wheel, have been the perfect team working for many years outside Rotary for the Telford VIP group, RNIB and particularly for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. They are a team that displays the essence of Service Above Self and with that in mind the club decided to recognise Paula’s part by awarding her a PHF at the same time as Ken.
